Hey, I’m also training as a teacher. I’m not able to give you any lesson plans but I could direct you to a few website that you can get a few lesson plans. Here are a few websites that I have used for class projects…www.edhelper.com; lessonplans.com; discovery.com; pbs.org; or you could just google lesson plans. Some of the sites are free. and some of the sites cost. However, I’m sure that you should be able to find something that will you help with developing a lesson plan there. I hope this helps…remember to tailor any plan that you use to your state standards.

I’m not a teacher myself although I have worked with young children, but there is a series of books written by E.D. Hirsch who started the Core Knowledge curriculum. The title of the books are “What your ___ Grader Needs to Know” and each book is for a separate grade, K-6. The drawback to them is that (at least some of the earlier editions) some of the info was purported to have been inaccurate. It is a very interesting series though, and perhaps one can get ideas from what the book(s) contain.
How about also getting a copy of your area’s public school system curriculum requirements related to sixth grade.
You need to refer to the curriculum guides produced by the state/province in which you’re going to teach. Those will lay out the things that you need to cover in the sixth grade, as state and provincial guidelines vary. I find it rather strange that your teacher training program hasn’t addressed this.
When I went to college we were taught the very things you are asking about? I wonder where you are going to college. You might need to change colleges.
