Tutoring is income. It’s called self-employment income.
When you file, you put it on a schedule C-ez. Keep in mind that if you have $400 or more of self-employment income, you *have* a filing requirement.
If cash, no record exists. No reports sent to the IRS.
After all, the one who paid you has already paid tax on that money.
If you lose sleep, claim it if it makes you feel better.

Technically if you earn money you are supposed to report it. If the employer doesnt report the expense to the IRS then most likely you wont claim it.
