My brothers high school teacher is making his class stay for long periods after the bell as punishment. This is ridiculous because some of the kids are missing their bus and others who are behaving properly are having to stay as well. How long are teachers allowed to keep these student after class?

i think it’s like 30 mins to an hour. talk to the principal about it and explain the situation about kids missing their buses. i live in a rural area so th school uses an in-house type of detention and suspension program. where the kids do their punishment during school hours.
it depends on the schools but i think there aloud to be keep after school for an hour
It depends on the policy of the school. Some schools require a 24 hour advance notice before students can be kept late. The parents or the kids who miss the bus should be the ones complaining.
Absolutley ridiculous. You should tell your parents to call the school and complain. That is complete bull****. Missing busses? What if they have work right after school? WOW that teacher has issues.
