they expect their teacher to always be absent or go on a leave.
A teacher should teach, not be the students friend and worry about what their “frequency” is.
But most students today want a free ride without doing the work.
Well I’ve had some bad expierences with some teachers but most of them are extremley nice. One teacher got mad at me for not understanding a math problem. When she yelled at meI felt stupid. I think teachers should be patient, understanding, and it would be extra nice if they had a great personality and related to us students.
The most important thing is for the teacher to have a high expectation from their students. When the students are aware of that the teacher believes in their abillity the possibilities are endless. A child will respond if you have faith in him/her if not they shut down. Simple faith opens up all routes of communication. Take the example of the Kipp Academy…
Communitcation is extremely important. It is also important to understand where your students are coming from, their background, economic status, etc. so that you can better understand them. I think the most important thing students should expect is to be treated as a person, not someone who is beneath the teacher. Respect is a two way street and with respect comes the willingness to listen and learn.
Educated well, fairness and equalilty, no racism, open-minded to all thoughts and learning styles, superman skills and strength, love, acceptance, a great teaching style, never goes to the restroom, has every book/educational tool available, keeps a stock of school supplies & tissues, has padding on her shoulder for soaking up tears, never mentions God, knows exactly how to handle parents, how to handle unruly students so that they never disturb others and also teach them at the same time, to be multi-tasked to take care of the handicapped, dyslexic, learning challenged, ADHD, ADD, emotionally disturbed, genius and gifted and how to diagnose each or suggest testing to the parents for one or more of the learning problems, recognise abuse-sexual,mental,and emotional, notice financial or other problems that make students act differently, student grade papers and hand them back the next day and have all lessons planned so they are as much exciting and fun as x-box/nitendo,etc., taking extra classes at night and weekends herself to satisfy the state requirements and maybe her own goals or be able to learn new techniques for every student’s needs, dress nice, laugh, smile, and never be tired, have a headache, or hurting feet because they must walk the students everywhere all day and stand and teach so she can walk around to check all students work, make every science lesson an exciting experiment, promote all students, keep students and school happy with grades and students disipline, and all of this happily EVERYDAY and with an income not to be believed and no class budget to buy everything needed so it comes out of her pocket or the kids do without! I guess that is about all.
Teachers should be able to control their class, teach all material in a way the students can understand, and offer to help any student who may be struggling. They should also be aware of each students strengths and weaknesses. Oh and they should try to teach their students in a way that their students can know that the teacher knows what he/she is talking about.
As a secondary school student i expect my teachers to be open to a certain extent and not to make you work too hard, they must be understanding and allow creativity within the classroom.
Weird that you asked a question and then answered it.
Anyway, students most expect CLARITY. Specifically, clarity on what is expected of them and what the policies, procedures, and roles are for the classroom. Everyone hates ambiguity wrt expectations. They need to be clear about consequences for themselves and others so that they can expect fairness and a safe environment in which to learn.
Bravo, Beckby!!! You said it all!
i expect the teacher to teach! i don’t want the teacher to be lazy, and i want the teacher to be clear as possible so i can understand what they are trying to teach!
